Tips for Having a Sustainable Holiday Season!
The Holiday season is a time to connect with loved ones and celebrate! But have you ever stopped to think about the environmental impact of this time of year? Whether it’s the glittery wrapping paper or plastic decorations, during the festive season we can leave behind more than fond memories and the regret of eating too many mince pies!
The magic of Christmas doesn’t have to come at the expense of the world. This year we’re promoting a greener way of celebrating, one that shares the love you have for your friends and family as well as the planet.
Make your own decorations
Go natural! Whether it’s pine cones, holly, evergreen branches, or baked oranges, these items make for beautiful and biodegradable decorations! An added bonus being that they look rustic and smell great!
Repurpose and reuse old decorations from last year! Whether you use them as they are or give them a coat of fresh paint, crafting something new from something old is a great way to get creative!
Reusable and Zero Waste Gifts
Buy local to reduce the shipping footprint of presents, source them from near where you live. This is a great way to support local businesses as well as getting something special.
Experience gifts are a great alternative to a physical present. Whether it’s a museum visit, cooking class, or concert ticket, memories last a lifetime!
Give a handmade gift like cookies, a knitted scarf or soap, these are a wonderful gift that your loved one can use and always be reminded of you!
Donation gifts are also a great way to contribute to a cause someone cares about.
Gift Wrapping Ideas
Reuseable gift bags are a great way to repurpose old items that have had their use!
Recyclable paper use gift wrapping, like brown paper and masking tape, that can be recycled. Lots of typical wrapping paper has glitter and plastic coatings. This is a great and easy way to make presents look beautifully rustic whilst also having a low environmental impact!
Celebrating the Holidays in a sustainable way is more than just reducing waste and cutting emissions – it’s about rethinking what makes the Holidays so special in the first place. By adopting these practices you’ll reduce your environmental impact as well as inspire others to celebrate with purpose and care.
This year let’s make new traditions, ones that make this season a time of joy and love that extends not only to our loves ones, but to the planet too!
